From late January to early February, although the overall price of scrap steel remained relatively high during this period, the amount of scrap steel recycling on construction sites also experienced a cliff like decline due to the impact of the Chinese New Year holiday. Currently, the amount of scrap steel recycling on enterprise construction sites has not fully recovered from daily production, which is also related to seasonal factors.

Mysteel conducted a survey of 105 waste steel recycling enterprises nationwide, and the data showed that the total amount of waste steel recycling on construction sites last week was only 8400 tons, a decrease of 17100 tons or 67.1% compared to the last survey week before the holiday; The total inventory of scrap steel on the construction site is 51100 tons, a decrease of 5300 tons or 9.47% compared to the last research week before the holiday; The total amount of scrap steel recovered by 105 enterprises is 71900 tons, with construction site scrap accounting for 11.64%, an increase of 3.22% compared to the last research week before the holiday.

Overall, in the first trading week at the beginning of the year, due to holiday factors, the recycling volume of construction site scrap reached a new low, and during this period, the real estate market has not yet resumed work. Therefore, the cliff like decline in construction site scrap recycling volume is also within market expectations. Starting from late February, with the resumption of work in the real estate market, it is expected that the amount of scrap steel recovered from construction sites will gradually increase, but until then, the overall situation will still remain sluggish.
